China town

I was able to go back for two baptisms this week! Nathaly was baptized in Moreno Valley in the Nuevo ward and Everardo was baptized in Riverside in the Mission ward. Nathaly's sister, Briana, was baptized while I was still in Moreno Valley, but we were able to set up almost everything for Nathaly's baptism before we left. It was awesome seeing the Martinez-Mendoza family and I should be able to see them again soon when they go to the temple! I was able to ride over there with a guy from my ward and we picked up Elder Dundon on the way, but we ran into some traffic, so we came running in just a little late and were able to change really quick. The font there takes forever to fill up though, so really we were just giving them more time to fill it up haha but the service went really well!

The other baptism was for Everardo. I was teaching him in the Mission ward with Elder Dundon and Ngatuvai and he came to church with us one time, but just had a hard time with the word of wisdom. The elders after us did a really good job though and he was able to see the Atonement of Jesus Christ really change him and was baptized about a year after he met the missionaries.

We have been teaching a lot of the recent converts here and it is definitely important to help them out, but we should be having some more time now to go out and find some new families who will be ready for the gospel. The transfer is already halfway over and we have a few people who could still be baptized by the end of the transfer, but we are going to need to see some miracles!

We did exchanges on Thursday and Friday with the English elders in the River Heights ward and the Chinese elders. I was with Elder Mills in my own area on Thursday and then I went with Elder Bailey on Friday in Chinaland. The Chinese missionaries are really cool guys and I just had no idea what was going on, but Elder Bailey was killing it. I almost fell asleep while teaching with him because there is just not one thing I can understand when people are speaking Chinese haha.

I read a pretty awesome talk from President Eyring this week. He said "If we become casual in our study of the scriptures, we will become casual in our prayers. We may not cease to pray, but our prayers will become more repetitive, more mechanical, lacking real intent. Our hearts cannot be drawn out to a God we do not know, and the scriptures and the words of living prophets help us know Him. As we know Him better, we love Him more."

Have a great week!
